A Building I Recently Visited

I have recently visited The Cheong Fatt Tze Blue Mansion in Penang, Malaysia. The blue exterior of the building with sculptures made from mosaic ceramic bowls has spoilt me with pops of colours I have never seen in heritage buildings.

I was amazed by how little wood animal sculptures on the windows and drain designs bring wealth to the household that lived there. It was amazing seeing how architecture helped the natural flow of air to ventilate such a huge mansion, during times where air conditioners were rare.

From all the imported materials and European designs, I adore how cultures were shared between the East and the West during times where transportation was limited. The building was still nicely restored and conserved, which is delightful to see that such a masterpiece can be conserved for our future generations to admire.
